Naming minors in community news — our default is no

School fetes, time capsules and “student perspectives” are part of a local file. Identifying children is not required to file them.

Privacy and naming minors in local news is a FAQ because community papers historically treated classroom colour as harmless. It is not harmless on the open web.

Our default: do not name children; do not publish identifiable photos; do not republish a 2020 student essay from an old CMS. Cover the public event. Link the school’s own notice. Keep heritage slugs such as the time capsule and 2020 perspective as context pages.

Adults can consent. Minors cannot be volunteered by a well-meaning neighbour. If a parent believes a page identifies a child, contact us. The FAQ holds the short, quotable version of this rule.
